BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering
Dominic gained a Higher Level Power Engineering Apprenticeship with Electricity North West who own, operate and maintain the North West’s electricity distribution network, connecting 2.4 million properties and more than 5 million people in the region to the National Grid.
Bradley – UK Fast
BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering
Bradley was successful in gaining a Higher Level Apprenticeship with UK Fast which is on the UK’s leading managed hosting and co-location providers, supplying dedicated server hosting, critical application hosting and cloud hosting solutions.
Fiona – Hanson Group
BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering
Congratulations Fiona on securing a Trainee Quarry Supervisor Apprenticeship with Hanson who produce aggregates and are part of the Heidelberg Cement Group which has leading global positions in aggregates cement and concrete. Hanson UK is a leading supplier of heavy building materials to the construction industry.

BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering
Congratulations to Chilambwe who will be Working towards a Power Systems Planning Degree with The National Grid which is the high-voltage electric power transmission network for Great Britain, connecting power stations and major substations and ensuring that electricity generated anywhere in England, Scotland and Wales can be used to satisfy demand elsewhere.

Alex has secured a Higher Level Engineering Apprenticeship with IKO a company that manufactures and distributes needle roller bearings, linear motion rolling guides, and precision positioning tables.

BTEC Outstanding Engineering Student of the Year, Douglas, secured a Higher Level Apprenticeship with United Utilities a Company which manages the regulated water and wastewater network for North West England- including Cumbria, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside.
Liam – Leyland Trucks
BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering
Liam has secured an Automotive Apprenticeship with Leyland Trucks which is one of Paccar’s global group of businesses and is one of Britain’s leading manufacturing companies. It is Paccar’s established centre for light and medium duty track design, development and manufacture.
Jason – Chester University
BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering
Since achieving his qualifications with Wigan UTC Jason has been accepted to study for a degree in Computer Game Development at Chester University.
Charlotte – MBDA
BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering
Charlotte was successful in securing a Higher Level Operator Engineering Apprenticeship with MBDA who are the only integrated defence company to provide missiles and missile systems for each branch of the armed forces (air, sea, land.). A multi-national group with 10,000 employees working together across France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. Offices also set up in USA.
Elliot – Sheffield Hallam University
BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering
Since achieving his qualifications with Wigan UTC Elliot has accepted a place at Sheffield Hallam to continue with his further education.
Sarah – ARUP
7 GCSE’s at grade A-C
OCR Level 2 Engineering
Sarah had intended staying at the UTC to do BTEC Level 3 Engineering and A levels. However, to keep her options open Sarah applied for an apprenticeship through STEGTA, one of our employer partner companies. Sarah has been successful in securing herself an apprenticeship with ARUP, Manchester, one of the top 5 engineering consultancies in the UK.
ARUP is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services. Through their work they make a positive difference on the world.
Ryan – Siemens
BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering
Ryan has successfully secured an apprenticeship with Siemens, one of our employer partners. At Siemens we depend on our people to help us shape the future. Apprenticeships are a great way for us to turn today’s talented young people into the experts we need tomorrow.

After leaving Wigan UTC Charlie went on to secure an apprenticeship at Jaguar Land Rover. It is a 5 year degree level apprenticeship where Charlie will obtain his degree from Warwick Maintenance group.

BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering
Following a successful work experience placement with Milliken he eventually secured an electrical engineering apprenticeship with the company.
A major Wigan employer Milliken has a rich history of delivering innovative flooring solutions from its award-winning global design studios, research centre and manufacturing facilities. Milliken’s progressive and purposeful flooring products offer great design solutions built from unique insights and an exceptional array of technical capabilities.
Ben – WSP/Parsons
BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering
Ben has secured a technical design apprenticeship with WSP/Parsons Brinckerhoff, he will be working on the rail infrastructure for HS2 (Britain’s new high speed rail line).
WSP and Parsons Brinckerhoff have combined and are now one of the world’s leading engineering professional services consulting firms. Together they provide services to transform the built environment and restore the natural environment, and their expertise ranges from environmental remediation to urban planning, from engineering iconic buildings to designing sustainable transport networks, and from developing the energy sources of the future to enabling new ways of extracting essential resources.
Michael – GE Oil & Gas
BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering
Michael has secured an engineering design apprenticeship with GE Oil & Gas. They will be providing him with an opportunity to further develop his skills as a CAD engineer which he has learnt in the last 2 years at Wigan UTC.

Luke – Sellafield Ltd
BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering
After leaving Wigan UTC Luke progressed onto a 4 year Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship at Sellafield Ltd.
Sellafield are specialists in nuclear fuel reprocessing and decommissioning. Their mission is to deliver safe, sustainable and publicly acceptable solutions to the challenge of nuclear clean-up and waste management. This means never compromising on safety, or security, taking full account of the social and environmental responsibilities, always seeking value for money for the tax payer, and actively engaging with stakeholders.
Robert – Pilkington
BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering
Robert turned down an apprenticeship with Rolls Royce integrated power systems preferring an engineering design apprenticeship with the Pilkington group.
Pilkington Group Limited is a multinational glass manufacturing company head quartered in St Helens, United Kingdom and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Japan-based NSG Group.
